Conversations with Flowers

EXPLORE PAINTINGS

Christine Mercer-Vernon is a representational artist who creates realist botanical oil paintings of garden flowers and the insects and pollinators that visit them. Deeply narrative, her works begin with quiet observations in the garden and compositions built one stem at a time throughout the life cycle of her subjects.

With over twenty years studying animal skulls and bones from life, her skull drawings and paintings look beyond documentation, contemplating the stories contained within the bones. Slow, quiet conversation between artist and subject. Her signature bone palette captures the nuanced color of naturally aged bone using three unique colors.
