The Wishbone Series
A reflective small works series.
One painting sparked an eleven year series of small, self-reflective works—painted from 2010 through 2021.
I had been drawing and painting skulls and bones for ten years and was looking for a new challenge. Two thoughts kept colliding as I planned: it was going to be difficult, and it had the potential to change me as an artist.

Suspending wishbones from ribbon freed me from the restrictions of composing on a flat surface. Balancing additional wishbones was a process requiring precise placement, with the lightest touch, and opened a pathway to deeper narrative exploration.

A secondary actor, the wishbone suspended from white ribbon is a surrender, a white flag thrown up to acknowledge the desire for acceptance in the face of disappointment and rejection.
