Eye on the Arts } Interview with Carroll Community College
I stumbled upon this interview from 2020 when I opened a solo exhibition narrative paintings titled, ‘when words aren’t enough,’ at the Gallery in the Scott Center at Carroll Community College. Two weeks after this show opened, covid exploded and we went into shutdown.
I recall the gallery director calling me panicked with news the college would be locked down in a few days and it was unknown when I’d have access to my paintings again. The next day I drove to Westminster, Maryland to get my art so I could ship sold works to collectors. My young daughter and myself had to uninstall the show ourselves and haul it all out to the car because everyone was in isolation.
This interview is a great peek into my process at the time. While my work has evolved further, my current body of work really grew from the art I created for this exhibition which featured a collection of floral and other plant life narratives… some with tiny insects. Many of my wishbone paintings, a now retired series, hung in this show as well.
It was wonderful hearing how everyone connected with these meaningful artworks and how the interpretations varied from person to person.
